step in the right direction

My son doesn't like me to go to his school (it's HIS domain).....I have been very worried because his class is having a 'tea' for mommies where they 'give manicures"....I am good to go, and bless his teachers, he is 'pumped' to 'paint my toes' on the computer at school (I am still not sure if I am allowed to be there, but this is a step in the right direction...I am somehow involved!!).

P.S.I am still going! His teacher said that it's okay if he melts down, she wants me to be there!

Another Day in Our House

My son and I had a "write off." The Direct Instruction program we use, Reasoning and Writing, has a section in it where the student learns to write what people said. You know, with each different speaker you make a new paragraph. I've been writing for decades (not well). Him? One year.

Picture 2 kids looking at a dinosaur egg. One says, "I feel something moving inside." The other says, "Don't be silly." Suddenly, the egg cracks open and there stands a baby dinosaur. The one kid says, "I told you I felt something moving." You are supposed to fill in what the other kid says.

Here is my entry:

"I told you I felt something moving!" said Ann.

"Huh, I thought it was the vibrator in my cell phone, " said Larry.

The boy writes:

As Ann and Larry hid under the [dinosaur] bones she said, "I told you I felt something moving."

Larry stared at the brontosaur [amazingly] and said, "We have to tell the world about this."

I think I won but the judge gave it to the boy. Huh.
