Finally, an opportunity for our kids to play some ball! I spoke to Tod Elias. He is very enthusiastic about expanding the league and wants every child that can to participate. He also has information about leagues in Multnomah and Clackamas counties so contact him if you live in those areas. The first game is Sunday, April 22nd, at Bryant Elementary School in Lake Oswego. You can bring your application form and fee to the game.
Information about the Challenger Division of Little League
All children ages 6 through 18, or who remain in school, with physical or mental challenges are encouraged to play:
-Wheelchair and leg braces, gross motor skills
-Lower level skills
-Cerebral palsy, heart and lung disabilities, and other heathimpairments.
-Developmentally disabled.
-Players who would benefit from a slower paced game.
Every player on the roster is in the batting order and shall play defensively.
All players bat in every inning played
Games are Sunday afternoons
Length of games are 3 innings or 1 ½ hours.
Challenger Division players wear the same uniforms and safety equipment as other Little Leaguers.
Benefits are:
-Baseball skills learned
-Opportunity to mainstream to other levels.
-Socialization through teamwork and fair play.
-Self-esteem increases of players and families.
-Family and community involvement in players lives
